The Columbia College Recycling Program held its ECO Fair today for Earth Day. This is the Recycling Program’s Third annual celebration of Earth Day. The event showcases businesses and organizations that strive to make a positive environmental and social impact.
I arrived a little after 10 AM and as luck would have it, walked right up to the event coordinator Neale Baldyga. After a quick introduction and run down of events he asked me to set up an art gallery on three movable wall partitions. The art consisted of guest book sheets from last year’s event, and ecological posters from contests held at Columbia College.
Next, I went to the welcome table, but it got boring quick so I grabbed some goodie bags from the Recycling Program and went outside to attract visitors. Surprisingly many did not know today was Earth Day, but soon the place was hopping. Probably because I mentioned the free food and smoothies.
Walking through the tables of businesses and organizations I found a interesting prospect for volunteering and will be contacting them next week, but more on that later. One presenter paid me a dollar after I watched a video on the food industry, and I donated the dollar back. l also had my picture taken with the Recycling Programs mascot Pete The Bear.
After it was over I helped rearrange the tables and chairs, and carefully took down the art gallery. They held a raffle for many of the items being sold at the Fair and I won a book titled, “The World Peace Diet” by Will Tuttle. It was a fun day and got to talk with lots of interesting people.
Eleven down and 39 to go!
