LAST Fundraiser for Elmer’s Kids

While browsing the Bridgeport News a few weeks back I read about “Elmer’s Kids” and decided to call the number listed for more information. Coach Elmer Mestrovic has been holding fundraisers for 30 years to help area children attend the Illinois Special Olympics. His goal is to help 50 kids and I thought this would be an worthwhile event to support so I volunteered to help set up tables and chairs.

Here are the details from that article: Feb. 19, 2011, at Nativity of Our Lord Church basement, 653 W 37th, 6PM to 10PM. $20 per person, pay at the door and includes beer, wine, food and music.

If you would like to make a donation or even donate some time please contact Johanne Lakomiak at

Fifty for 50!

This year I will be turning 50 years old and I wanted to do something to commemorate this milestone. I’ve decided to set a goal to perform 50 acts of philanthropy by my birthday. In addition to donating my time to help others I will use this blog and my facebook profile to promote these organizations and causes. I hope that you will be inspired to help them with your time, or financial support. Please check back for more information about who I will be helping.

Thank you!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I am making my site pink in memory of my mom who died from metastasized breast cancer on December 26th, 2000. It was her request that people remember her by supporting Children’s Memorial Hospital’s Oncology department.

Mom

In the spring of 1999 my mom went to Edward Fox Studios to have this portrait taken as a Mother’s Day gift to us. She was recovering from treatments the year before and her hair came back curlier than it had been in decades.

Don’t wait until it is too late, make an appointment for a breast exam or perform a self exam today. The life you save may be your own.

Earth Day Turns 40!

Earth Day 2010Earlier this year I made the decision to reduce the plastic bags I get at the grocery by using sacks.

Last weekend I raked up the mulch and planted flowers in my front yard.

This weekend I’m planting a container garden of herbs and vegs for my porch.

Reduce, reuse, recycle and remember, we only have one Mother Earth. You are going to miss Her when she is gone!
