End Dogfighting in Chicago

This morning I headed over to Canine Crews in Humboldt Park to help the Humane Society of the United States with their End Dogfighting in Chicago campaign. Canine Crews runs a boarding & day care for dogs, and I was impressed with how well organized their operations are run. End Dogfighting in Chicago held a Pitbull & Pit mix rabies vaccination clinic and offered free spay and neuter through the Anti-Cruelty Society.

It was a beautiful day and the dogs all seemed well behaved. There were 45 dogs seen for shots and 11 signed up for the spay/neuter clinic. There were few other organizations involved in today’s outreach including Mercy for Animals.

The was a Pitbull training demonstration given by Jeff Jenkins who is a full time trainer with End Dogfighting in Chicago which conducts free training for Pitbull owners and their dogs. He works in some tough neighborhoods, but is a very easy going guy. He is currently holding free classes on Tuesdays at Canine Crews.

When I signed up for today’s event they assigned me the cooking detail which is right up my alley. It was easy and working with another volunteer we prepared soy-chorizo for vegan burritos, and kept the crowd plied with soy milk, and cranberry & chocolate chip cookies.

Number 33 down and only seventeen more to go!
